You are in control of your mind and it has been scientifically studied and released that we can only have one thought at a time.
That means that you’d best make it a positive one!
Begin making steps now to avoid negative thinking because if you ‘bring about what you think about’ and attract to you what you focus on, as the universal law of attraction suggests then only by thinking positive and helpful thoughts will you get what you want and not what you do not want.
Start by having a small gratitude diaryand acknowledge the positive in your life and begin to re-establish some balance in your emotional register. At the end of the day list 3 things that you are grateful and thankful for, they dnt have to be huge things but small things like enough milk to go in your tea, your dog for their attention and no bills through the door. Start noticing the things that are working for you inlfe right now and you will then begin to notice even more as your gratitude habit continues.
Many people can have something happen at 8am in the morning like a car alarm going off and waking them eralier than they wanted to wake up and then make that incident the cause of their bad mood and attention all day long, meaning that the day is unenjoyable for them 8 hours after that event. Please if something happens to you like that, deal with it there and then, give yourself permission to b##tch and moan, have a right grumble and possible throw in a why me? and then get over it! Move on, it’s over and it can now only ruin your whole day if you choose it to, stop doing that! Avoid just focusing on the bad things that happened during your day as remember what you focus on you get so consider the good as well to balance it out.
What did you say to yourself when you woke up this morning? If it was something like ‘ yay, another day another dollar’ great but if it was ‘ugh, another day…..’ not so great! What we say to ourselves determines what we think, how we feel and then how we act. Begin now to say something positive to yourself as soon as you wake up every morning. It can be something simple as in ‘ Great another day, I’m alive’ This will keep your energy and mind focused on positive thinking and gratitude. Be thankful for each day that you have; you never know which one could be your last!
Use positive self-talk, mantra’s and affirmations. Reinforce your resolve and self esteem through positive statements such as, first thing in the morning ‘today will be a better day than yesterday’ or ‘today I will do my best and that will be good enough’ or when a situation occurs “I can handle this, one step at a time,” or “Since I’ve been successful with this before, there’s no reason why I can’t do it again.” or generally throughout the day, ‘ I am good enough’ or ‘being me is enough’. Statement like these help you to be ok about being you, as quite frankly being you IS enough-always!
Take a few moments maybe first thing in your day and visualize positive things, this does not take long you can take only a few minutes but it can help you regain focus and control over your thinking. Think about things that make you happy, that you enjoy and love. Create an internal feeling of optimism and positivity.
Think about success, read about successful people, think about how those successful people are just like you, perhaps list the ways in which they are just like you. For example David Beckham – Essex lad, working parents, blonde hair, has a sister, didn’t do great at exams, liked junior school, that could all be the same as you! Think about whatever it is that you really want to do and think about who has already done that, who are
they, how are they just like you? if they can do it then you can do it , if you learn how – can’t you.
Don’t throw in the cards before you’ve actually been defeated. It can be hard carrying on when you feel like the world or at least your part of it, is against you, but I urge you – keep going! You can help yourself by saying things like ‘ I can’t do this yet’ ‘Right now, I cant get this right’ ‘Everything is temporary, I will do this’ You don’t deserve to beat yourself up and make yourself feel bad by verbally and mentally punishing yourself. Stop that! Make your challenges temporary because they are and by using words like yet, today, this week and right now in your self talk and language you will train your thinking to see those challenges as happeniing or occuring right now but that doesnt necessarily mean that they will continue into the future. Make everything temporary!
Lastly, if you start thinking unhelpful, unfriendly and unkind thoughts, the second you become aware of them, say ‘STOP – Delete!’ (outloud or internally) ‘STOP – Delete’ . This will train your mind to stop giving that information as you no longer want it or benefit from it. If this information comes to you as internal voice then do this ‘Stop – mute – delete!’ Stop that noise. Create this as a habit and you will very quickly benefit from all your negative self talk and self criticism, just stopping and no longer giving you negative unhelpful information. This is cahoots with the gratitude practise will quickly switch your negatives to positives.
Remember: If we bring about what we think about and we only have one thought at a time, then make it a positive and helpful thought. If we are able to create our own self fulfilling prophecy then it would be a good idea wouldn’t it, to create what we want!
Practise the techniques above, change your thinking to be beneficial for you and begin to quickly reap the benefits.
